By Odio ODAFE
The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Project Monitoring/Audit, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, has warned contractors handling government projects in the state to beware of poorly executed jobs.
Agbi, gave the warning yesterday when he visited the ongoing construction of Ughelli/Asaba dual carriage way sector C, at Ellu/Otor-Owhe and Emevor in Isoko North Local Government Area with his team of project inspectors.
In carrying out on the spot assessment on the said road being handled by Levant Engineering Limited where he pointed some of the spots which may likely fail if not corrected as soon as possible also commended the contractor for his swift action as promised at the last visit.
“When we saw it the other time, we called the attention of Levant to look at that part of the section that already failing because of potholes but as you can see when we were coming along the road, they have taken care of that, my friend here promised us that they will mobilize to the portions we have earlier pointed out to them after Sallah”.
“That after Sallah they will move here to start working here and you saw it that they have started putting finishing asphalt on the road because they said they will move here and I commend them for putting in place best Engineering practices in carrying out these corrections.”
He expressed the zero tolerance of his Excellency the Governor Rt. Hon. Elder Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to shoddy or poorly executed jobs in Delta State, saying, “Going forward, they should do good work because our Governor does not tolerate any poorly executed work that will fail in the next one or two years. Remember this is a major road.
“Everybody passes here. When there’s any failure people will know and they will call Levant, so they should be careful of their name so that the remaining portion is done properly,” he stated.
The site engineer handling the said dual carriage road, Engr. John Sabai, assured the monitoring team of doing a good and standard job that will stand the test of time.
Dr. Goodnews Agbi also visited the ongoing dualization of 1.6 kilometer Ezesi road, Orerokpe, in Okpe Local Government Area.
He asked the contractor Wizchino Engineering Limited, WE, to put up his best in ensuring the job is delivered within the stipulated period and place where necessary road signs for directions and avoid unnecessary damages of properties during operations.
At Udu modern market, the Special Adviser expressed state government’s willingness to complete the ongoing market.
“Government can’t sink so much money here and not complete it, it has to be completed that was what we were discussing with the contractor, he has raised certificate which has been paid but before raising another he’s waiting for the review due to high cost of materials.
“The consultant is slowing them down, what he supposed to provide for them to do the review he has not done that hence we are inviting the contractor Chu-Emma Global Services, consultant and the awarding ministry to the office to find solution to this matter, the redesign will also affect the review,” he added.
Agbi, frowned at the nature of shoddy job being carried out at the ongoing construction of 2.5 kilometer Odedogho road (phase 1) from Ekiugbo junction, off Ughelli-Patani Express, in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
He therefore called on the contractor Zims Global Impex to always ensure quality job in line with the Bill of Quantity.
